While I do enjoy writing about designers worldwide, it's warms my heart even more if I can write about designers from my own homecountry. The design duo Isla and Greta are two Finns that had one ultimate idea, to combine work and fun. This is how it all started..
"At one party evening we listened old C-cassettes and got jiggy with the tunes. The feeling was great. All evening we laughed and listened to the great hits of all times.”
You don't even need to say more. Isla and Greta weave their current collection from cassette tapes. You heard it right, they use the C-cassette tapes together with cotton yarn to create a fabric that they use for their designs. While wallets are the main attraction on their site, you could get your very own C-cassette pillow case as well from the "Unique" section (hurry!).
If this wasn't unique enough already, all wallets have their very own "Wallet ID". You can get a wallet woven by sweet tunes of Diana Ross, Gloria Estefan, Whitney Houston, Billy Ocean.. what a list.

http://www.hemmingwillstrom.com
So Isla and Greta. First, I can't help asking, are these really your real names or are they actually too good to be true?
Yes, they are our real names indeed. Maybe fate wanted to bring together two eager designers with cool names. Also the fact that we both are insanely interested in C-cassettes might have helped the fate just a little bit. Our names aren't typical Finnish names and who knows; maybe one of us has changed her name to something better. There just might be a clue to this one on our website!
You would think that there are both ups and downs working together as a design duo. Do you feel you complete each other? Is one's strength the others weakness or are you both good at the same things?
Although we work well together we are like night and day. We have different opinions about Everything. Starting from the font color on our website to the way we write our emails. And because we always have different opinions, we decided that we need an official 'Arguing Day'. Most people just rest on Sundays but we argue. On Sundays both have the liberty to tell to the other every little thing that has been bothering during the week. And on Mondays the air just feels refreshed! That’s our secret to working so good together!
Like our personalities our strengths are also different. Greta likes graphic design. She's always working on some fun drawing or some other graphic project. Isla is our sewing master and she sews all of our wallets. Our products we design together.
Lets say one would like to have a wallet custom made for them, with a special music artist in mind (an artist whose music is available as C-cassettes naturally, unless you start working with CD's). Do you take custom orders?
It is possible to customly make a wallet from tapes sent to us. Or you can ask, if we happen to have cassettes of your favourite artist in our material collection. It's also possible to make somekind of small alterations by request. For example changing the colour of the zipper or lining is possible and can be included to the price. Our aim is to create products just for the customer's needs.
You would think that a C-cassette tape is not the easiest to work with. What happened the first time you tried to include it in a fabric, was it all success from the beginning or have you ever felt you're trying to do something that won't work out?
When we first time saw cassette tape as sewed fabric, the first thought was: "Oh it's so shiny!"
But it has taken a lot of time to get to this point where we are now. The product development part of this collection has been quite long. It has been a true salvation for this project that there are two of us. Because during this project we both have sometimes had some lack of faith towards it. And when the other one of us has a 'down phase' going on, the other one can cheer the other one up with her own enthusiasm. The positive response of customers and seeing our products ready makes all the effort worth while.
I'm personally a little disappointed that the insanely cool C-cassette bracelet is not for sale. You were kind enough to give us instructions how to make one yourself, but you're not planning to include this piece in your shop collection? For the lazy ones, you know.
The bracelet was designed last year when we started to use cassettes as a material. Weaved Wallets were designed later, so the bracelet is very precious for us as being our very first product made out of cassettes. We have got really much positive feedback about the bracelet, but we don’t have time to make them at the moment. The reason is that making bracelets is MUCH more time-consuming, than making the wallets. So we made a decision to concentrate now on the wallets but we also wanted to share creating instructions of the bracelet with everyone who likes it as much as we do.
But there's some good news for the lazy ones if you are patient enough to wait until May! Because in May we will graduate from Seinäjoki University of Applied Sciences. After that we'll have all the time in the world without the stress from our thesis and we can make a few bracelets for the fastest! Send us an email if you are interested!
You're already accepting ideas for your next design theme. In what direction do you think your designs will develop, is it only about accessories or is it possible that you might expand into the apparel industry one day? With that said, looking forward to the C-cassette dress!
Yes, we are accepting ideas for our next theme! We would be thrilled if one morning we could see our e-mailbox filled with suggestions about our next collection. Suggestions can be colours, moods, materials, almost anything that inspires you! Thus, to all readers: Please send them, Thank you!
We are expanding our present collection and the next product from C-cassette fabric will be an Envelope bag! It will be a glamorous accessory that girls want to take with them for a perfect night out.
The bag is currently under development and we can’t wait until we get it ready for use! Our aim is to include it in the collection and our website, on the Collection page, during April. But if those bags haven't appeared to the website after a while, the reason is that Greta has kept all of them for herself! A girl can never have too many bags!!
In the future the collection will be wider, but still made mostly of recycled materials.
Our intentions are that in addition to the accessories the collection will include clothes and interior textiles with colorful prints that we both love.
Isla and Greta were kind enough to offer one wallet for a giveaway. The giveaway is open for worldwide residents and they will send the wallet directly to the winner. Giveaway question could not get easier than this.
As upcoming designers they want your feedback on their site and collection. Is it something you didn't find on the site but think should be there? Do you want to share an idea for the next design theme? What do you like about the site or is there something you dislike?
Feedback is extremely valuable for all business owners, so drown them in that please.
The winner gets to choose one out of the four currently available wallets on site. The value of one wallet is €38. If you want it now and can't wait to see if you win, then there are instructions on the site how to order.
Place your feedback in the comment section below - last day to enter is Sunday 12th April. If you're a resident of Finland, it's ok to comment in Finnish instead of English if it's easier for you. Best comment wins; it could be a fun one, or a creative one, or well said constructive criticism. I leave it to the judges Isla and Greta to decide who is a worthy winner (winner will be contacted by email, so be sure to leave your email as well). It could be anyone!
No extra entries available, but you are more than welcome to write about this in your own blog or shout out about the giveaway on Twitter. Only one comment per person!
Good luck!

count me in on this one too....thanks
i can't think of any advice about the site (well-designed website! like it)...or the design.
but looking at the wallets, there are four picture options but five design options. there's no way to look at the "radio" design without opening a pdf, which i'd rather not do.
(i love the groovy beat one)
What a great idea. Love the change purse/wallet.
rwhaley@atlantic.k12.ia.us
I would love to see pictures of your weaving process and close-ups of the fabric. It took me a while to realize that the wallets are actually made from woven cassette tapes, but maybe I'm just slow...
Very cool idea, by the way. I'd love to have a skirt or dress made of that fabric.
very nice site butit was sort of slow- maybe have all the pics on one page...very creative though.
i need that cassette bracelet. give it to me. i must have it. ill be flying into finland for it pronto. i will trade my drunk husband for it. please take the deal!
i think the website should confront you immediately with pictures of products rather than the company story.
I dunno, I think the site could use some more color! Black/white is classy, but I think this site needs color (not all, but some) to stand out.
Like the colored rain on the "why" isn't really strong
I don't like how the word "Press" is cut off.
The wallets themselves are unique, and I love them!
I think the wallet/bracelet should be set as the 'home page' instead of the 'why' section.
My 2 cents.
KawaiiNeko2008 at aol dot com
I think there needs to be a background colour. More pictures ie: picture of a cassette tape with the actual tape pulled half way out of it, pictures of the process etc. Pictures should be visible and not need to be downloaded or clicked on. The first page should not be the Why page -- it should be a page with more pictures than words ie: the Collection page.
The items are super cool! How unique. I love that the wallets can be made with specific music! Could you expand into making purses and messenger bags?
Thanks for the giveaway. mybabyappleseed(at)yahoo(dot)ca
i like the change purse/wallet.
SAAAWEEEEET idea. I mean serisouly y'all were brillinat to come up with that idea. The designs are great but maybe add a little more cassetiness to them. They definately are uniquie but maybe you could add something to make the cassettiness of them stand out more than just the fabric, because from far away they do look similar to other materials. Hmmmmm...
I think these are really cool, especially these days when being "green" is so important. How clever to recycle something that is nostalgic to many of us. I don't know how you do it (impressed!) but would take it a step further into making purses and clothes!
I love to know about how ideas are formed & then to follow the creative process. I would add more colour & graphics to the site. Give it the WOW!! factor that the delicious goodies deserve.
My advise is simple keep promoting and marketing and you will be a success.
Wow, I love everything! Gorgeous pieces that are very artistic. I have a feeling all of these items would turn heads. I love seeing creativity come to life! America would love to see more items like these!!
What a superior looking wallet. I do not see anything like that around here.

I like the photography, and the wallets/bracelet are super cool! I would use some bits of color, some grayscale, maybe some dots, just to jazz it up a little.
Thanks! foxsquirrelrabbit at gmail dot com
I don't think I win this giveaway... my English is so bad. But I want to try it only because I found a wonderful designs in this shop... I fell in love with the cassette bracelet!!!!! And the wallets are absolutely fantastic!!! I love recycling and cassettes leave remember me good feelings... This is the ideal mix!
Thanks for giving me the chance of discover this art!!!

All in the game yo, all in the game.
They are interesting wallets, I also didn't care for having to open the pdf's though on the website, thanks very much for the contest.
I was a little confused as the collection only appears to have 1 product than while exploring I clicked on the small pix under the main one and saw the different designs. Perhaps some cue that this is needed to be done would be nice. My husband is full blooded Finn so I am thrilled to have discovered this site and hope to see it expand.
I think the site is very cool. I love the black and white theme with a touch of color - it's classy. The addition of some reds may add to the classiness and grab attention. I think there should be more images of the items sold as well as more viewing options, even a 360 degree view if possible.
As for a new item, how about a card/cigarette case with a clasp (http://www.bewild.com/cigarettecases.html)? Is that possible? I use those to carry my license, credit cards, and money when I go out. They are very handy. Or maybe a small cosmetic bag? Just a few ideas.
I think it's an incredibly clever design and very green! It combines two addictions in one - music and accessories/bags :).
Thanks for the opportunity!
Jae
I have never had a bracelet wallet and it looks great
This looks handy
wow what clever and creative wallets!! very cool!
mel_sunrise@yahoo.com
I love your site and the product! I would say though that maybe it would grab some more attraction on the first page if you had a picture or two of your product. I am no business marketing major though! I just wanted to see something more when I clicked on the link to your shop. =)
Wow wow wow - this is cool
I love the products, I love the webpage design, but I think there should be an online-ordering page to make it more convenient for buyers when they want to purchase something from your e-store.

I like it when artists use recycled materials that remain recognizable.
With things like the cassette tape bracelet, it would be fun to use recognizable pop group tapes or something like that.
Definitely add an "order online" option!

I love their designs. The site was a little bland for my taste and took a little longer than usual to load.

Toistan osittain edellisiä kommentteja, mutta kannanpa nyt kuitenkin korteni kekoon (= eli en malta olla osallistumatta arvontaan, jossa on näin söpö palkinto :D). Hajannaisia ajatuksia:
- Tykkään sivujen ulkonäöstä, pelkistetty toteutus ja niukat värit toimivat.
- Tuoteosio on aavistuksen epäselvä.
Hello!
I definitely think there should be more stuff in there. Perhaps with colors as well?
I kinda have a slight difficulty with the page, i thought the COLLECTIONS TAB will bring me to different categories, and I got stressed why I was only seeing wallets. It then dawned on me that it was the only ones there. Hmmm.
But. I like the edge that the collection brings. =)

I disagree with the other comments on the issue of colour, I like the black and white! The content is fine, just enough info without feeling there's too much to read and the graphics are lovely. However, I'd like to see more of the products - more photos of the inside of the wallets. Also, I think it would be a good idea to put the "collection" page up first so visitors can see the main attraction of the site. If they then want the "why" they can look it up. I think you're making some great stuff and I'll be interested to see what new designs you come up with in the future! (velvetbird at hotmail dot co dot uk)
I want that c-casette bracelet! Such a great idea!:)
I need one of these! I think they are so cool!
Yall have some beautiful stuff! My feedback is to maybe add a little bit more color to the website. It looks a little bland. And maybe find some more interesting fonts.
I love the "Fine" wallet as well as the "Carnevel"
Lovely idea!
pw0105(at)gmail(dot)com
Everything is looking great so hope I win
I love the site. Clean, simple-well designed which gives me confidence in their products. I'm with you-I wish the bracelet was for sale...I'm a bit lazy sometime! I'm still a little confused how the wallets are made...could they have an option where you could send in your favorite tape and have it turned into a wallet. That would be a great way to memorialize some of the music from my youth.
very cool site, easy to use and useful. and as for these wallets - how different and cute!
I love your wallets! Very nice accessories!
*Something witty and slightly charming*
I would like to see product pictures on the first page. I would also like to see more product pictures in particular close up shots of the material, and the inside of the wallets. Otherwise the design/layout of the site is great and I love the bracelets!
Nice designs. Looks like a quality product.
I think itwould be neat if they made belts.
I would love the wallets as they look like they would hold up after much use.
I think its neat that we can getsuch a new unique product.
Thank you
camper223[at]live[dot]com
I love the site design! Very contemporary. Collection is funky as well. Maybe have multiple view of the products? That might be helpful. but site is great as it is!
Great site and I love that they use recycled products. The site looks good but loads very slow. I would love to see them make belts.
Thanks for the nice giveaway.
They are so individual - will be a must have this summer!!
Amazing designs! Never seen anything like it before. Thanks for sharing on the website!
Nice site, my suggestion is to brighten it up with some more color
Diane
dianesmb@aol.com
The designs are spot on because they are cutting edge, youthful, and sassy.
Zoe0825@verizon.net
Splendid idea
splendid idea
The concept and products are marvelously creative! My teenaged daughters would love the wallets and the bracelets. I think the website is very well set up and laid out. I love the simplicity of the black and white and the graphics for the page titles. Maybe add just a splash of color to some of the pages. Best of luck in your enterprise!
I could see the wallets catching on as a trend, but we Americans want it now when we want it, so I'd encourage them to add online ordering, which I couldn't find anywhere. asthenight at gmail dot com
I love their designs. I hope they keep expanding their product line. garrettsambo@aol.com
This would be a wonderful win. Thanks for that opportunity.
dianad8008 AT gmail DOT com
really cool!
When I clicked on the Groovy Beat WalletID to see what songs are playing and I saw the Trolls cassette...words cannot describe the flashback that brought around. Sitting in my living room, singing along with high pitched trolls to Going to Bermuda. My poor mother, I would listen to that tape over and over again. When I got a bit older and I heard the original songs, I was convinced that they had copied it off of the Trolls instead of the other way around.
Ok, now on to the actually somewhat productive part of the comment. I like that the site is very crisp and clean, there isn't a bunch of stuff clogging it up or taking away from the information and products. I know a lot of people are saying more color, but I think the design lends an "indie", minimalist in a good way kinda vibe. I think it would be better if the pictures of the wallets were already uploaded to the site instead of customers having to click and wait for a new page to load with the photo. Also, I was really excited to find a how-to of the bracelet. It shows that you are artists at heart in order to share such a unique concept with the world.
I would love to be able to personalize a wallet with a name or initials :)
I was absolutely awed that the value of the prize was posted in Euros and not Dollars; plus blogged to the designs which were very unique; chic!!! Many Thanks SW; raymondw345@AOl.com

I think America is ready. What a fab idea!

I'd love to see the wallets made in various sizes. Such as wider or longer because sometimes when I go out, all I want to take is my wallet and it would be nice to fit some money, an id & some lipstick.
These are so much fun! I don't see a sample of the "Radio" style. It would be nice to be able to click on the name and see that style instead of having it go to a pdf.
Ehdottomasti paremmat kuvat kukkaroista! Kuvan alla sivuilla oli acrobattiin (?) linkit, olisiko niistä pitänyt avautua jotain? Minulla ei avautunut.
